Zamar Music Inc. is a community music organization based in Brampton, Ontario, dedicated to supporting holistic wellness across all life stages through the power of music. Role Summary
We are seeking skilled, thoughtful, and caring Music Instructors to deliver lessons and music mentorship to students of all levels, from beginner to advanced, through both one-on-one and group lessons at our Van Kirk Drive facility. The ideal candidate is not only an accomplished musician and educator, but someone who delivers instruction with genuine care and thoughtfulness — meeting each student where they are, honouring their cultural context, and supporting their growth as both a musician and a whole person. All lessons, including online lessons, are delivered on site.

- Able to teach technique and repertoire in a fun, engaging, and supportive manner.
- Enthusiastic about culturally relevant music education and open to teaching repertoire that reflects the diverse musical traditions of our community.
- Able to work independently with limited supervision while contributing positively to a collaborative teaching community.
- Strong in organization and time management.
- Deeply passionate about education and making a meaningful difference in students’ lives.
- Proficient in sight reading with the ability to demonstrate technique to students (an added asset).
Core Responsibilities
- Deliver one-on-one lessons (30 to 60 minutes) and group lessons in person at our Van Kirk Drive location, including on-site delivery of online lessons.
- Teach using Zamar’s uniquely designed curriculum, which integrates wellness through music education and culturally relevant music education alongside technical and theoretical excellence.
- Foster each student’s confidence, self-expression, and overall wellbeing as an intentional part of every lesson — creating a learning environment where students feel safe, seen, and encouraged.
- Plan and prepare lessons and examination syllabuses tailored to individual students’ needs.
- Teach music theory, aural skills, and practical techniques, incorporating RCM curriculum as required.
- Prepare students for examinations and submit names of prepared students for RCM examinations as required.
- Motivate, mentor, and encourage students, building strong relationships that help them succeed.
- Provide brief feedback to parents at the end of every lesson, and liaise with staff and parents to support the success of all students actively enrolled at The Academy.
- Conduct bi-annual student assessments — one in each term, just before our Winter Student Showcase and Spring Student Showcase — providing constructive feedback and written progress reports.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of examination requirements.
- Work with staff to prepare students for and participate in our Winter and Spring Student Showcases, as well as other recitals and concerts for students, families, and friends.
- Participate in occasional team gatherings and professional community-building with fellow instructors.
Education & Qualifications
- BA in Music, or Grade 8 Level RCM Practical and Theory, OR equivalent training and experience.
- Demonstrated teaching experience or a strong foundation for music instruction.
- Experience delivering group lessons or ensemble instruction is an asset.
- Working knowledge of My Music Staff (scheduling, attendance, and studio management software) is an asset.
VULNERABLE SECTOR CHECK REQUIREMENT
As all Zamar instructors work closely with children and members of vulnerable populations, a valid Vulnerable Sector Check is required for this role. Successful candidates must produce a Vulnerable Sector Check within three (3) months of being contracted. Continued contract engagement is contingent upon a successful Vulnerable Sector Check.
Contractor Relationship
This is an independent contractor position. Instructors are compensated at $25.00 per hour of instruction and are responsible for their own statutory remittances. Scheduling is coordinated with The Academy based on studio availability and student enrollment.
