Zamar Music Inc.
The teaching year runs in two terms: Term 1 (September – January) and Term 2 (February – June), with summer programming as scheduled. The Academy is closed on statutory holidays and posted breaks. Monthly membership fees are calculated across the full teaching year and remain the same each month regardless of the number of lesson days in a given month; fees are not reduced for months containing holidays or posted closures.
Make-up lessons are given whenever the teacher cancels a lesson or Zamar cancels lessons (for example, due to inclement weather where online delivery is not provided). Students are notified in advance when a lesson is cancelled. The Academy provides a maximum of two (2) make-up lesson credits per term (Term 1, September–January; Term 2, February–June) for lessons cancelled by the student with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice to the teacher and/or the office. With less than 24 hours’ notice, the lesson is forfeited and no make-up is given. Make-up credits have no cash value, do not reduce monthly fees, and expire at the end of the term in which they are issued. This policy applies to both in-person and online lessons.
Lesson status may be changed at any time from online to in-person or in-person to online, at no charge and with no penalty, subject to scheduling availability.
Zamar reserves the right to have a supply teacher deliver a lesson when a teacher is ill, absent, or unavailable, and to assign or reassign instructors as staffing and scheduling require; membership guarantees qualified instruction, not a specific instructor. If a supply teacher cannot be provided, students receive a make-up lesson for each lesson the teacher is away. Where an instructor plans an extended absence, a supply teacher will be arranged.
Membership fees are due on the first of each month and reserve the participant’s weekly lesson time. Students should notify the teacher of an inability to attend as a courtesy, but notice does not excuse payment: there are no credits or refunds for student absences, and monthly fees are not reduced for missed lessons. Eligible student cancellations are covered by make-up credits instead (see Cancellation and Make-Up Lessons). Monthly fees may be adjusted for vacations with a minimum of two (2) weeks’ notice to the teacher and/or the office. Billing, card-on-file, and pre-authorized debit terms are set out in the Membership Terms & Conditions.
Membership fees are reviewed periodically and may be adjusted on no less than thirty (30) days’ written notice, per the Membership Terms & Conditions.
Legacy 150 Members Only — memberships established on or before September 30, 2026 (Founding Members, established on or before August 31, 2026; Charter Members, established September 1–30, 2026): annual membership fee adjustments, if any, will not exceed fifteen percent (15%) of the standard base rate for the member’s tier in any twelve-month period. This cap establishes a maximum only and does not create any obligation to increase fees. Legacy founding rates and conversion dates are set out in the Membership Terms & Conditions.
Zamar Music maintains a no-refund policy, except as set out under Withdrawal. Exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis at management’s discretion; requests may be sent to info@zamarmusic.org and receive a response within five (5) business days. The full Refund Policy is in the Operating Policies.
A $25 administrative fee applies to each declined or returned payment (non-sufficient funds, or NSF). Accounts unpaid ten (10) days after the due date may have lessons and member benefits paused until the balance is settled; paused lessons are not credited or refunded. Accounts unpaid thirty (30) days after the due date may be terminated, with the full outstanding balance immediately due; Zamar may refer unpaid accounts to collections, with reasonable collection costs added to the balance owing. Consistently late or unpaid membership fees will result in the student’s removal from The Academy.
Two (2) weeks’ written notice to the office (info@zamarmusic.org) is required to discontinue lessons before completing the teaching year. Fees are charged through the end of the notice period, including any regular billing date that falls within it; amounts prepaid for periods after the notice period ends are reimbursed where applicable. Withdrawal ends any Legacy 150 status permanently, per the Membership Terms & Conditions.
Students are expected to be on time for lessons, as a predetermined time slot is reserved for them; a late-arriving student receives the balance of the time remaining in their slot. Zamar supervises students during their scheduled lesson time only. Students should be dropped off no more than ten (10) minutes before their lesson and picked up promptly when it ends; staff are not responsible for supervising students before or after their scheduled times or after operating hours, and repeated late pick-ups may incur a supervision fee. Minors are released only to the authorized adults identified on the account. The full Child Safety and Supervision Policy is in the Operating Policies.
To protect students and staff, participants who are unwell should not attend in person. Where the student is well enough to participate, the lesson may be taken online at the scheduled time instead; otherwise the standard cancellation and make-up policy applies.
Where weather, maintenance, construction, or other circumstances make the facility unavailable, lessons proceed online at their scheduled times rather than being cancelled, and online delivery in these circumstances fully satisfies the lesson. Where online delivery is not possible, a make-up credit is provided. Closures and delivery changes are communicated by email and the member portal.
The student must have, or have access to, an instrument in good working order on which to practice the material taught at weekly lessons. Routine (daily) practice is critical to student success. Practice rooms may be made available to students, based on availability, at $30 per hour.
Method books, examination registrations (RCM, CCMC), and similar materials and fees are additional to membership fees and, where ordered through Zamar, are billed to the account on file at the prices communicated at the time of order.
Student showcase and recital participation is a membership benefit, scheduled within Zamar’s programming calendar and subject to program capacity and preparation requirements set by the instructor.
