What Makes Us Unique
The curriculum is multigenerational: the same path fits a seven-year-old beginner and a retiree picking up an instrument for the first time. Students learn to read, play and improvise, drawing on approaches from Kodály, Suzuki, Orff and El Sistema alongside gospel, jazz, Caribbean and classical traditions. The curriculum builds toward capstone performances and prepares students for RCM and CCMC examinations, competitions and talent shows.
Lessons are one-on-one, online or in person, with ensemble and showcase opportunities every term.

Qualified & Professional
Our Founder
Corey Butler is a composer, producer and educator who founded Zamar Music in 2016. A Music Professor at York University for 19 years, he created and teaches the York University Gospel Ensemble and serves as Musical Director of the York University Gospel Choir. He holds an MA in Composition from York and is a co-recipient of the 2026 Kathleen McMorrow Music Award from the Ontario Arts Foundation.
Corey’s works have been performed at the Rose Theatre, Roy Thomson Hall and the St. Lawrence Centre. He was Musical Director of the award-winning Toronto Mass Choir for 11 years, producing four of its recordings; has been Music Director for many of The Nathaniel Dett Chorale’s concert productions since 2015; has collaborated with artists including Carvin Winans; and chairs the JUNO Awards’ Contemporary Christian/Gospel Recording of the Year category. “Raising up from within” has been his mantra throughout.

Yes, students can enrol at any time.
Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice can’t be made up. Students may receive up to two make-up credits per term for lessons they cancel with at least 24 hours’ notice.
Membership fees are due on the 1st of every month and are processed automatically by credit card or pre-authorized debit.
